چکیده

Reproduction of the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, on soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., has been compared in conventional till and no-till field plots. Rate of SCN population density increase during the growing season was lower in no-till than in conventional till plots (3,5), or the number of SCN at harvest was lower in no-till than in conventional till plots (6). In one study, there were no differences in numbers of SCN cysts between conventional till and no-till plots (1); only the number of SCN juveniles in July was significantly higher in singlecropped, conventional till soybeans than in soybeans double-cropped after wheat (conventional till and no-till). The objective of this study was to determine, in cores of disturbed and undisturbed soil, the number of SCN developing on soybeans grown in the greenhouse. Undisturbed soil cores were obtained by driving 15-cm-long segments of 10-cm-d plastic pipe into SCN-infested soil. In one experiment, cores were obtained on three dates from field plots following planting of soybeans no-till into wheat stubble in a Grenada silt loam soil. In another experiment, cores were collected in April 1985 from a field plot where soybeans had been p lanted following convent ional tillage practices in 1984. After collection, cores were randomly assigned to two treatments, disturbed and undisturbed. Cores were disturbed after removal from the pipe by

Effect of Soil Temperature and pH on Resistance of Soybean to Heterodera glycines.

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, is a major pest of soybean, Glycine max L. Merr. Soybean cultivars resistant to SCN are commonly grown in nematode-infested fields. The objective of this study was to examine the stability of SCN resistance in soybean genotypes at different soil temperatures and pH levels. Reactions of five SCN-resistant genotypes, Peking, Plant Introdu...

Heterodera glycines Invasion and Reproduction on Soybean Grown in Clay and Silt Loam Soils.

The soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, is a severe pest of soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., in the United States. Nematode reproduction and the seed yield losses caused by this nematode are influenced by soil texture (3,5,6). Todd and Pearson (5) recovered higher numbers of SCN females and cysts from a sandy loam soil than from silty loams. Soybean yield also has been ne...

Short- and long-term tillage effects on Heterodera glycines reproduction in soybean monoculture in west Tennessee

Soybean cyst nematode, Heterodera glycines has been documented as the pathogen most consistently causing yield loss in US soybean production fields almost since its discovery in the US. No-tillage has been adopted in much of the soybean production areas to preserve soil and nutrients. The impact of this production practice change on soybean cyst nematode has been evaluated since the introductio...

Influence of Calonectria crotalariae on Reproduction of Heterodera glycines on Soybean.

Calonectria crotalariae enhanced root penetration of Lee 74 (susceptible) and Centennial (resistant) soybeans by juveniles of race 3 of Heterodera glycines. Numbers of cysts in and on the roots of Lee 74 increased during the first 30 days in the presence of the fungus. Percentage of root infection by the fungus increased at 40 days in Lee 74 in the presence of the nematode. Numbers of cysts in ...

Influence of Temperature and Soybean Phenology on Dormancy Induction of Heterodera glycines.

Growth room and field experiments were conducted to determine the influence of soil temperature and soybean phenology on dormancy induction of a North Carolina population of Heterodera glycines race 1. Three temperature regimes and two photoperiods to regulate plant phenology were investigated in growth rooms. H. glycines hatch was greatest from the 26 and 22 C (day and night) temperature treat...
